For the child ready to explore music and movement more independently; we will nurture their growing body, mind, and independence with purposeful music and movement. Children will enjoy musical exploration through games,  creative, purposeful, and sequenced movement, storytelling, imaginative games, and simple dances. This class expands on Exploring Music and Movement 1 with increased independence and expansion of musical ideas and concepts of graphic notation. The class focuses on activites of Summer, the Seashore, and our Neighborhood, and children are encouraged to engage in choosing activities and actions. Classes are designed for the children’s growing independence and competencies and emphasize movement education so that parents do not have to choose between dance/gymnastics and music.

"UCCMA has a great program.  My son has been attending classes for over three years now and started when he was 6 months old.  Each class is thoughtfully planned and the variety of classes are tailored to accommodate your child as they grow.  Not only are the classes fun, but they continue to teach music, movement, creativity, memorization, and spark activities at home that my son normally wouldn’t have thought of.”

Build the aural, motor, and reading skills for successful future piano study with song and dance as we play keyboard percussion, explore music notation, and grow in confidence and musicality. Making Music classes are our pre-piano/instrument classes and use a 2-year curriculum that builds aural, motor, and music notation skills to prepare children for future study. Year-1 classes are open to children who are 4 to 6 years old before September 1.

Classes include singing and rhythm activities, purposeful and creative movement, instrument playing and ensemble building, as well as an introduction to orchestral instruments and music reading and exploring piano concepts on keyboard percussion instruments. Making Music is a pre-piano class that bridges the gap between our younger classes and our piano classes.

Making Music classes are our pre-piano/instrument classes and use a 2-year curriculum that builds aural, motor, and music notation skills to prepare children for future study. Building on the children’s growing musical independence, Making Music 2 classes advance the concepts and skills introduced in year 1, with piano study the following year. We emphasize the beginnings of keyboard/piano skills with Orff-Schulwerk instruments (xylophone, metalophone, glockenspiel) in ensembles, folk dances, and music literacy. Children delight in seeing the tonal and rythmic patterns they learned in Making Music 1 appear in the written notations of Making Music 2.  Class is for children age 5 to 7; children make join year two with no experience with teacher permission.
